Righteous Regardless

The warrior sage does not tiptoe around life, hoping never to disturb the peace. The individual who behaves in that manner shall never be truly at peace. The warrior acts boldly, doing what he knows is right, regardless of how it might make others or even himself feel. He makes the tough decision, does what must be done, and is willing to deal with the consequences of behaving righteously.

He does not do this heartlessly or coldly; he does so with compassion, caution, and strategy when necessary. But he does so nonetheless. The truth will not always feels good, but what feels good or comfortable or safe will not always be right, honest, real, or healthy. Listen to your gut, trust your intuition, accept your fears and feelings while knowing that even if this is a painful step right now, eventually you and whomever else involved will be the better for it in the long run, as long as you do what’s right in the now. Faith, trust, acceptance—these are the tools the Warrior uses when faced with tough decisions. He is not afraid to feel, not afraid to disappoint or to be alone, for he knows that all states are temporary; and ultimately the immediate results of the righteous action will be washed over by the righteous state that was necessary all along.

Do not tiptoe around life hoping never to feel loss or sadness. You will fail. Do not walk on egg shells with others, aiming never to disappoint them. You will only end up disappointed in yourself. Never let the fear of disappointment, sadness, or even pain supersede what you know is right and true. Act boldly, truthfully, righteously, regardless of anything else. And do so with good intentions, with the bigger picture in mind, even if others can’t see it. Do so with wisdom and love. Do so for the greater good and for your own peace of mind. Doing what you know is right will often be tough and require immense courage, but acting righteously even in the face of fear is what truly defines a warrior!

Nature: The First & Greatest Rebel

Nature is not perfect.
But in its unique imperfections lies its extraordinary beauty.
Nature is not stagnant.
And in its ceaseless movement are trust and reliability.
Nature does not conform.
But its harsh rebellion commands the acceptance of all living things.

Nature does what it does, regardless of anyone’s expectations or judgments; it does not mind and pays no attention; it moves, changes, acts, and reacts with regard only for what is true for itself. Because of this careless freedom and steadfast intention, we love it, accept it, watch it, and are drawn to it. We will leave behind the comfort of our homes and travel thousands of miles to be near the greatest feats of Nature. We will revere it as an act of God and sometimes as God itself. All because Nature is its own greatest power, its own driving force, a divine example of true freedom.

Do you conform to the world due to others’ expectations or judgments?
Or are you a rebel? Are you free? Are you unconditionally and invariably true to yourself?

We each are also Nature.
Remember this.

Clear the Path

The road through the mountain to the old temple cave has become muddled over with winter shrubbery and fallen rocks. The Warrior’s apprentice wants to continue on the broken, old path, trekking over the difficult terrain because he feels safe in knowing where the road leads. But his Master goes with his gut, stopping to change direction and clear a new path through the mountains. He cuts away the bushes, creating an easier journey, which eventually leads to an undiscovered cave, more beautiful even than the old one in which they had originally intended to pray.

Just as the Wise Warrior clears away shrubs to create a new route when the old is no longer viable, so too must we free space in our lives, cutting away old, broken ways so that  new opportunities can manifest  along our paths.  Get organized. Tie up loose ends. Let go of old ways, situations, and relationships that are no longer working. Only after letting go of the Old, can we invite and recognize New doors that open in our lives.

It is often frightening to let go of the things with which we are familiar. But a Warrior faces his fears and treks on in the direction of the unknown, keeping his wits and listening to his Inner Voice. He takes the fear as a guiding light, using it to steer him forward to a new lesson and opportunity, toward progress and change, toward further self-awareness. Do not stay on the same, old road just because it is comfortable and safe; if it no longer feels right in your Gut, then it is time to clear away the old and make space for a new direction. Be honest with yourself as to what is right for you now, have faith that the Universe will open new doors, and trust your own Inner Voice as you trek along the terrain of your life.

The Warrior Calls Upon Discipline

Buddha says: The cause of suffering is desire. One aspect of desire is attachment to impermanent things; another is the pleasure-seeking will of the body; both are Ego – the false self, which acts out of fear of loss, with limited vision of the Absolute and impeded access to the Greater Wisdom. As one becomes self-aware, discipline will become necessary in order to act from Source, from Wisdom, in doing right, regardless of immediate pleasures and desires. Discipline is the triumph of wisdom over desire. The Warrior stops himself from doing what he wants to do after recognizing, however subtly, that the doing is not acting from Source, but rather from Ego. He knows that, ultimately, action from Source brings greater pleasure and long-term peace; immediate pleasures are nothing in comparison to the promise of ultimate serenity.

This is why we must use any means necessary to become aware of ego and fear-based desires, and to act instead from Source and Wisdom. Self-Discipline is one of the first significant steps along the path of the Warrior.

Who Are You... REALLY?

What does it mean to become unattached? It does not mean to be completely detached from everything and void of love, commitment, or emotions. Indeed, feeling—love, loss, devotion, sadness, etcetera—is a crucial part of the human experience and cannot nor should it be ignored. Rather, unattachment means to not entangle one’s authentic self-identity with the things of the world, to not confuse who YOU really are with the labels you’ve taken on, the possessions you own, or the people with whom you are involved. In essence, unattachment is to separate your sense of true being from the ego or awareness of the ego: You are not your mind and body, and so you are not the things that it needs, wants, and identifies with.

YOU are rather something deeper and untouched by these things of the world. Being unattached means that when these things come and go, even though you may feel upon their gain or loss, you hold a steady, constant, underlying awareness of the untouched, authentic spirit within—that no matter what happens out there, YOU are and will be okay. Your existence is not the same as the presence of these things in your life, and so you shall exist with or without them, unaltered, unscathed at your core. Emotions will not kill you. Loss will not thwart your existence. You are forever an authentic spirit, as part of the Great Spirit, which is eternal and omniscient.

Be the rock in the ever-changing river. Be the spirit you are in the ever-changing world. When you realize you are the constant of the Universe—the Power, the Love, the Energy, the Knowing—needs and desires don’t seem as important and fears wash away. You realize that the true YOU exists forever no matter what and that no thing can touch you. With inner knowledge of your true self, abates significant attachment to the things outside of your self. There is no loss and nothing to lose. You are whole no matter what. You are already everything you need. You indeed are and have all that exists. Just know it!

The Warrior is Decisive

The Warrior recognizes when it is time to make decisions. There is a space for contemplation, for weighing options and testing waters, but eventually a resolution must be made, a direction must be set. Children waiver back and forth; the uninitiated trainees get stuck in deliberation. But the Warrior listens to his gut, honors his Inner Voice, and makes a choice to move forward. He sets the course, dictates a plan of action, and executes his route, on his terms, to see his decision through.

Sometimes decisions change. Things out of our control create waves in the sea and the Captain must alter his course. A reasonable change in direction is still an act of decisiveness. Only a poor leader stays too long on a non-working course or waivers in between two paths, and the indecisive Captain crashes the boat.

Do not be the delicate willow reed swaying in the wind. Become the steady oak, growing toward light, deciding upon a sure direction and walking your Purposeful Path. Make your decision and take your course! This will allow you to eventually sprout in many directions, to entertain a plethora of branches, all the while keeping a purposeful, steadfast presence at the Center.

Your Greatest Service

The wandering sage rests for a night in a township on the eastern border. Upon learning of his great intuitive abilities, the town governor offers the wise man a steady wage and position in the high court. The security and status are indeed tempting, but that path would halter the sage’s mission in discovering his divine essence. Without much hesitation, the adept humbly passes on the offer and continues to wander. This is called Service.

Food, clothing, and shelter are necessary. But do not forego your true mission for the security of possessions. This will only fill the glass partially, as the biggest fulfillment will come from your contribution, your service to world.
Knowledge is noble.
Peace is paramount.
Compassion is Key.
However, your greatest service MUST be to live your purpose, your passions, your meaning, whatever they may be. This is why you were put here. These are your unique gifts to the world, the way YOU complete the picture. To live your purpose, to give you purpose, the be what you were born to be, to do what you were destined to do—this is your greatest service to mankind and to the Divine Universe. Do not let us all down! Do not let the Great energy down. Do not forsake your gifts to the world in exchange for the security of status and material wealth. If you focus on purpose first, security second, then have faith that your purpose will bring you stability.

Love your life, love your actions. Become an inspiration to others who are still afraid to give up “stability” and instead love their own. In the altered sentiment of an inspirational leader: Ask not what the Universe can do for you, but what YOU can do for the Universe. To live your passion is your greatest contribution. The rest of us need the special abilities you have to give. For our sake, PLEASE do not forget this!
